Make Extra Money At Home With Storage Auctions
In the past year one of my new favorite shows on T. V. is Storage Wars and the reason is because of how easy they make it look to buy a good storage unit and turn around and sell it all for profit. Lately I have been coming up with more and more good ways to make extra money at home and that is what leads me to storage auctions.
Now I know that a storage auction is a little bit different than what I normally talk about but it still is a good way to make money from home and that is what is important. The reason I wanted to write about storage auctions now is because I called around to different storage facilities in my area and they all said similar things regarding getting the best storage units.
Everybody told me that if I waited until November and December that the amount of units will more than triple. I guess this is due to a lot of people skipping out on their storage bill to save money for the holidays and others just forgetting but the key here is to have available cash to get the best storage units.
You are probably wondering, “How am I supposed to make money if I am just buying units”?
There key to this entire process is selling what you find in your unit. What I would recommend is that you sell items that you find to secondhand stores, sell your stuff at yard sales, on Craigslist, and my personal favorite – on eBay.
If you can sell everything you find in your storage unit then you could potentially come out way ahead but you have to know what you are doing. When I say this I mean you need to know what you are selling and the reason is because if you don’t then you could get rid of a priceless item for mere pennies.
True Story:
About 6 months ago a friend and I went to a storage auction and bought 2 units. My storage unit had a few good things in it and a lot of nick knacks that sold really well at yard sales. In the end I ending up making around $900 off of a antique armoire, chrome rims, and some nick knacks.
My friend on the other hand bought a unit that contained a bunch of older baseball cards, old clothes, and an antique clock. What had happened was my friend didn’t really go through all the stuff since he just knew (or so he thought) the clock was going to be worth a lot. Being that I wanted to know what kind of cards he had I decided to go through them and see what some might be worth. After I went through about 100 of them (there were probably close to 3000 cards) I figured that the ones I was looking at would be around $750 (pretty good). Anyway, he sold all the cards for $2000 and started telling all of his friends how good of a deal he made and everything. So to make this long story somewhat short one of his friends dad was the owner of that storage shed and what he told him shocked him until this very day.
Underneath all of the cards there were 3 signed cards and a championship ring. The 3 signed cards were the Michael Jordan rookie card, a Magic Johnson rookie card, and a Shaquille O’Neal rookie card along with a championship ring from one of the trainers on the Lakers during the Showtime era. Now if you know anything about sports then you know that these cards and the ring are going to go for a lot of money.
Still to this day we don’t know what ever happened t the cards and the ring but I can assure you that a true sports fan would not just sell these.
Now back to the actual article.
So what I am telling you is to make sure you have enough money in the coming months and start looking for storage auctions in your area. My recommendation would be to look in the newspaper for a listing, on Craigslist, and even call around to the different storage facilities.
The last thing that I want to make sure you understand is that you need to know what you have before you sell it. Don’t be like my friend and sell something that is perhaps priceless to many people because you can’t get it back once you make the sale.

Great idea. I will surely try this. I have sold many times on ebay (goods that were once used my me), but never bought anything from any yard sale to resell then on ebay. Lets see how this works and from your words it seems that storage auctions will be a good start.

I have bought many times from yard sales and sold them on ebay or my personal shop, but I never bought from storage auctions. I will try this and see if this works for me. Thanks for the idea and for sharing your experience.
