This past month I decided to track the amount of emails I received, how much time I wasted on them, and how much time I could have saved.
The results were astonishing!
In the month of September I received 2197 emails, responded to 613 of them, and spent (wasted) roughly 356 minutes (6 hours) on them. Now if I kept on going like this I would waste 72 hours per year or 3 whole days just on emails.
That is a lot of wasted time.
Think about this, how much do you make in a day? If you made $100 then you would throw away $300 per year just because of your emails. What I didn’t tell you about my emails was that I wasted 365 minutes responding to them, not reading them. Being that I can’t really control who sends me an email and what is in it, I can’t do anything about that. I can control the amount of time I spend on replying to emails and I am.
I am making a change!
During the month of September I exchanged a few emails with a great guy – Chris Ducker from the VirtualBusinessLifestyle.com and there was something on his email that got my attention. Chris has a rule where he no longer sends out huge emails, he now limits his emails to a maximum of 3 sentences.
Now I know that I won’t be able to stick to only 3 sentences right now but I am going to try and stick to 5 sentences maximum. From my rough calculations I will be able to save roughly 4 hours per month which will be a lot of time over the course of a year.
Now that I am saving 4 hours per month here is what I plan on doing with that time.
My goal is to take those 4 hours per month (1 hour per week on average) and create 6 new websites. I have figured that it takes me about 40 minutes to find a new keyword, write 2 articles, and set everything up on the WordPress platform.
With these 6 new websites I estimate that I will be able to make an extra $300 a month (after a few months of work). What I have been doing is setting up small niche websites surrounding 1 main keyword and so far each one of them is making an average of $50 per month from Adsense.
As you can see over the course of a year I will be able to make a lot more money by simply cutting back on my emails and putting more time towards my actual business. If you want to make a big change this year then I highly recommend you do the same thing – cut your emails down to only 5 or less sentences.

I spend lot of time in reading the emails. I also have a temptation to read the emails which I know would be useless for me (like daily deal emails, lottery winning emails). Also when I reply I write long sentences and think many times before I write anything. So, I suppose writing short sentences can also be of much help. What do you say?

I never thought this before. I receive many emails a day but never tried to figure out how much time I am spending on them. I think I should also calculate how much time I am spending in reading and replying to emails. Thanks for the tip.
