Starting Another Online Business – When To Move On
If you are like most people you don’t just want to have 1 online business, you want to have many. What most people don’t understand is that you can’t just jump around from idea to idea in order to find something that works, most ideas work but you have to give each one a certain amount of time. The problem that a lot of people have is they start a new business idea and then soon after starting they quit, trust me, this is not the way to go about building an online empire.
When it comes to starting another online business one of the main things you need to do is first make sure your other businesses are running the way that you want them to. If you are building websites and using them to earn an income through Adsense, affiliate sales, or whatever the income source might be then you need to have each site setup and making money before you move on. Anybody that has ever made money online can tell you that you have to stick with 1 project at a time, too many projects will spread your time too thin and nothing will make money.
Something that I have been asked before and was completely floored by was when a person asked me, “Why should I start another online business?”
The reason why you should start another online business is so that you don’t have all your eggs in one basket. As many people recently found out, their sites are not bulletproof especially in the eyes of Google (Remember the Farmer update). If you want to keep on making money online you need to diversify your income sources.
What big time blogger or internet marketer do you know that only has 1 blog, or only has one source of income? There are none. Every blogger, internet marketer, affiliate marketer, freelancer and everyone else does more than just one thing in order to increase their income and make sure their business is not going to tank.
Tips To Starting Another Online Business
Don’t Go Too Far Outside The Box – When I say don’t go too far outside the box I mean stick to what you already know. If you are offering writing services then maybe you should offer consulting to new writers. Many people think they can only do one thing but what you need to realize is that many people are just getting started online and they might need some consulting to get to the next level.
Start Out Strong – Something that a lot of people tend to forget is that the very first month of any new business is the most important month. The reason why the first month is important and why it is imperative that you start out strong is because this will be the foundation that people see when they use you or come to your site. Think about this, if Amazon started out selling broken goods do you think they would be where they are at today? No, word would have spread and Amazon would have been done before it even got started.
When To Start A New Business
When You Reach The Plateau – In any business there will always be a plateau effect that you need to watch for because this is when you have to make a decision. If you have a website then the plateau is the traffic, if you have a writing service then the plateau will be your time. The decision you will have to make is whether you will attempt to fight the plateau effect (something I would not suggest) or start a new business.
Income Is At A Stand Still – When your income stops growing then that is a great sign to start something new. Many years ago I started a blog about living room sets and my income got stuck just under $500 a month. I didn’t know what else to do so I started a chain of home furniture websites and now my income has been steadily climbing month after month. You need to think of income as blood, once it stops so will your heart (business).
Finished The Last Project – When you finish one project you cannot just sit there and pat yourself on the back, you need to start another one. Let’s say you just built a niche website and you got it to the number 1 spot on Google, “Great job”, now start a new niche blog. Whatever your business might be doesn’t matter, what matters is that you keep on moving and making your online business grow each and every month.
The last thing I want to leave you with is that successful bloggers and internet marketers are not just sitting around waiting for their business to grow, they are being proactive. Just remember that it doesn’t matter what kind of new business you are going to start as long as you did the prep work and understand how to make it a success.
