How To Run A Landscaping Business – Make Money From Home
Are you into landscaping and want to know how to run a landscaping business from home? What most people don’t realize is that landscaping is a cash cow, you can make a lot of money in a very short amount of time by simply working for people you know and slowly expanding your business. My advice if you want to start a landscaping business if to first make sure you have the essential tools; lawn mower, edger, grass trimmer, rake, shovel, a couple big garbage cans, and a small trailer or a truck.
“Is there too much competition for me to succeed?”
I am sure that is a questions you have asked yourself and to be honest there is not a lot of competition out there and the reason is because nobody is charging what people want to pay, that is where you come in. Do you know why Wal-Mart is so successful? The reason Wal-Mart is so successful is because they offer people products that other stores sell but they give you a lower price, this is what you need to do.
One of the things you need to do in order to run a landscaping business if figure out if you want to charge by the hour or by the job, my advice if you are just starting out is to charge by the hour. The reason why I suggest that you charge by the hour is because this will help build up a small clientele until you can start making the amount you need to before you brand out and start taking chances. What most new landscapers do is they start out by charging per job and what normally happens is people already have somebody that does the same thing, so why even bother with you. Trust me, give it 2 or 3 months of charging by the hour and then you will be on your way to making a lot more money very soon.
I bet you have asked yourself many times, “How do I run a landscaping business” and “How do I get clients”, right? If these are two questions you have asked yourself then I want to help you out by giving you the answer to both of those questions.
“How do I run a landscaping business”
The first thing you need once you have all the equipment is a calendar to schedule all your soon to be appointments and then you will need to start letting people know about what it is you do. The reason why you need a calendar is so that you can make sure that you set appointments at a time that is workable for you as opposed to trying to make a meeting and then not even showing up or showing up late. When it comes to starting a new business you need to be punctual and make the possible client think that they are your only client.
“How do I get clients”
This used to be a very hard thing to do but not anymore. All you have to do in order to get clients is take the time and be patient. When I started my first of 5 landscaping companies around my home state I went door to door and handed out flyers, this works great but it is a lot of walking. I would still recommend doing this and the only reason is because when people see are face to face with you there is a better chance they will give you a shot.
Another way to get clients is to put advertisements on Craigslist and even place ads on Facebook. If you don’t want to get that technical then all you need to do is call your friends and family and let them know what you are doing and that you need their help. If your friends and family don’t need a landscaper then you could at least have them tell their friends and family about you and see if anybody else needs a landscaper. I did this when I started my house cleaning business and within 3 weeks I have 2 clients per day. Trust me, when it comes to word of mouth, there is really no better way to advertise what you do.
Like I said before, running a landscaping business is not that hard and it is even easier when you have friends and family that are willing to help you out. The last thing I want to make sure you understand is that even though you might not make a lot of money at first you should still stick with it, most people quit their businesses in the first month but with a landscaping business you need to wait at least 3 months to see if it will eventually grow.
